With the weather finally sunny, it’s the start of day trip season! For our first, we’ll be spending a day in the nearby Cheddar Gorge. This crag offers bountiful sport climbing for all abilities, including multi-pitch and top ropes. If you’ve been learning at Redpoint, this is the perfect opportunity to take your skills outdoors!
As this trip involves only roped climbing, you must at least be competent in top-rope belay, which you can be taught at Redpoint Wednesdays! We expect the weather to be sunny, but “damn Jackie, I can’t control the weather!”
We plan to leave from the SU around 9am and return around 6 or 7pm. As always, any gear you require can be borrowed from the club morning of the trip.

For this years Easter trip, UBMC will be going to San Vito Lo Capo in Sicily, Italy! On offer is a huge range of sport climbing, multi-pitch routes and deep water soloing, along a beautiful beach lined coast.
We will be staying in bungalows on a campsite in San Vito Lo Capo, just a short walk from the beach. Each bungalow is self catered and sleeps 5 people. Normally, groups will take it in turns to cook and we will likely all go out for one group meal. The main crags are ~45 minute walk or more, depending on how far we venture.
Tickets include 7 nights in self-catered accommodation, as well as a bus transfer to and from the airport (flights not included). You must be a UBMC member to come on this trip - there are 35 spaces.
You must also be a competent sport climber, including being able to clean routes outdoors. There is still time to learn these skills at Redpoint Wednesdays, if you are already an experienced top rope climber.
Trips are arguably the highlight of UBMC membership. Throughout the year we run numerous great value weekend trips to different locations around the UK, open to all abilities. These provide a great opportunity to put your training into practice on some beautiful real rock; to socialise and properly get to know other club members; and to escape from work and the city to some stunning natural landscapes of the UK.
We depart from the back of the SU building at around 6pm Friday and return late night Sunday, staying two nights in a Scout hut or bunkhouse. The club provides breakfast on Saturday and Sunday, dinner on Saturday night, and plenty of booze!
On Saturday and Sunday we decide as a collective which crag(s) drivers will be heading to and spend the day climbing outside. Depending on the trip members may split off into bouldering and roped climbing; many like to do both.
Membership is required for all trips and covers your climbing insurance.
As well as weekend trips, we also regularly run day trips to stunning crags near Bristol such as Cheddar Gorge, Wyndcliff Quarry, and Goblin Combe. These only cost a few pounds to cover petrol and are open to all skill levels.
In the Easter holidays we take a week abroad to climb somewhere new and exciting, with recent trips including Croatia, Sicily, and Kalymnos. This is another fantastic value trip with more reliable weather for climbing, plus plenty of extra time for sun, sand, sea and shenanigans.
